More and more educators are rediscovering the importance of serious
musical studies.  Children who study classical music generally do much
better in math, science, and verbal skills, than children who do not
have musical training.

Our Children’s Choir is an Affiliate of the Royal School of church
music.  The RSCM provides high-quality choral training in the “voice
for Life” program, which fosters extraordinary instruction in singing,
liturgy and the treasures of scared music old and new.  RSCM
sponsors summer workshops at cathedrals, major parishes, and
universities.

The last three years we have made a fine beginning of a tradition of
high quality choral music for children.  We are unique here at Saint
Edward in that we offer choir to kindergarteners who want to sing and
have the support of their parents.  By our offering of choral instruction
to Kinders, it is my hope that we will develop even better singers as
they grow.

We are also affiliated with the American branch of Pueri Cantores, an
international organization dedicated to fostering quality singing among
Catholic children throughout the world.  Our children will join others
from San Francisco, Sacramento, Monterey, and San Jose at the
Cathedral in San Francisco on November 15th for a children’s Choir
Festival led by Dr. John A. Romeri, prominent clinician and Director of
Music ministries at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis, MO.  The
highlight will be when the children join with other Pueri Cantores to sing
a special Mass with the bishop at 4:30pm, in the Cathedral of Saint
Mary.

Last year we were fortunate to have a number of parent volunteers to
help out both at rehearsals and when the children sing.  Please
consider being a parent volunteer.  Watch for enrollment forms when
school resumes.  If you have any questions or would like any additional
information, please don’t hesitate to call.
